Hollie Smith visits THS
On Thursday the 3rd of September THS was lucky enough to have Hollie Smith in school to do a music mentoring session with a select few senior students from level 1, 2 and 3. All the students performed a song for Hollie and were given feedback. Hollie will also be back in school on Monday the 14th to do another full day with the same students in preparation for their solo performances at the end of the week. Yeah, Nah It's Not Okay Song Quest
Some of our Tarawera students performed original songs at the 'Yeah, Nah It's Not Okay' Song quest on Saturday night. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness of anti violence and bullying. It was great night with lots of talent, there were groups from all over the Bay of Plenty performing.
We had a group of seniors Bless Maxwell, Keesha King and Somer Richardson perform an original song which is part of their evidence for their 6 composition credits for in music. Hohepa Waenga received an award for the lyrics for his original song. Here are a few pictures from the evening.

Theatre In Education
The year 11 Performing Arts Academy students went out to the local Kawerau primary schools to perform their 'Theatre In Education' pieces last term. They had to devise a drama performance that taught the primary school kids something. The performances taught things such as using the correct rubbish bins, using manners, telling time, tying your shoes and not to judge a book by its cover. The school kids at Putauaki and Kawerau South School loved the performances and joined in with the audience participation with lots of enthusiasm. It was a great day, below are a few pictures thanks to Anneke Hepi.

Our new Performing Arts Centre and Music Room!
It is not long now until our department is scheduled to move into our new teaching space! Although the construction crew are slightly behind schedule we will start packing up and preparing to move at the beginning of Term 3.
The performing arts centre will have a stage that is connected to the music room which leads out to an outdoor stage. Miss Hocken and Ms T-F got the chance to look around the current construction site on Wednesday and here are a few pictures of the space! Pictures include the stage, the corridor leading through to the music room, the outdoor stage (still a complete construction site at the moment) one of the practice rooms that will eventually be a recording studio and your fabulous teachers wearing the correct gear required to visit the site. Enjoy!
